What makes an Old Mine Cut different?

Many have a softly squared outline, a small table, a high crown and an open culet. Broad facets create large flashes as the stone moves. Watch the individual diamond in motion, since the name does not describe every facet pattern.

Is an Old Mine Cut always antique?

The cutting style alone does not establish age. Historical diamonds and stones cut today can share an Old Mine style. If age is part of your decision, ask what records support it.

What should I compare beyond carat weight?

Compare length and width in millimetres, the outline, and the side profile. Two diamonds of similar weight can occupy different amounts of space in a setting. For a longer shape, use the dimensions alongside photographs rather than choosing by a length-to-width ratio alone.

What should I ask before buying?
