Choosing a five-carat-plus cushion for an engagement ring

Start with length and width in millimetres and the outline you prefer. Compare the on-hand view with the 360-degree view, then consider the depth and profile with your setter. Similar carat weights can have different face-up dimensions.

For example, the 5.01 ct H VS1 measures 10.85 x 9.39 mm, the 5.02 ct H VS2 measures 10.39 x 9.11 mm, and the more elongated 5.03 ct F VS1 measures 11.72 x 8.91 mm. Open their individual pages for the complete measurements and report details.

Colour and clarity grades describe different qualities from facet pattern and movement. Ask for additional views of any inclusion, girdle area or culet you want to examine. The catalogue cut description identifies the cutting style; historical age requires its own supporting evidence.
