Design a modern setting around the antique diamond’s actual outline and condition. Start with accurate face-up measurements, side views and a map of the girdle so the setter can plan the seats and protection.
Resolve height early
The 5.02 ct H VS2 old mine cushion measures 10.39 × 9.11 × 6.41 mm. Its depth makes the side view particularly useful when planning a ring intended to sit close to the finger. The design needs room for the pavilion and clearance beneath the culet.
Place support where the stone needs it
Hand-cut corners and shoulders may differ. A thin girdle section, natural or earlier repair can affect prong position and bezel coverage. Mark these areas before approving the drawing, then agree how they will be protected during setting and daily wear.
